Open Shortcut Chat

In Development

Invitation-based encrypted chat with Apple Shortcuts integration.

Project Overview

A browser chat application for people who want to create a private room and share an invitation without a sign-up flow. Messages are encrypted in the browser, and the project includes Apple Shortcuts messaging workflows.

Features

  • Create a room or join using an invitation link without registering an account.
  • Browser-side AES-GCM encryption with room keys carried in URL fragments.
  • Message polling, custom nicknames and conversation export.
  • Apple Shortcuts setup and messaging support.

Technical Architecture

  1. Browser

The web frontend handles room invitations, message encryption and decryption through browser cryptography.

  2. API

An Express backend manages room and ciphertext requests, with request-size and rate limits documented in the project.

  3. Storage

SQLite stores room data, encrypted messages and initialization vectors, with bounded history and inactive-room cleanup.
